Cave in Johnston Canyon Hiking Area, Canada

A popular place for most tourists, my group of friends and I wanted to beat the rush. We arrived shortly after sunrise and began the hike and descent into the canyon in order to share the sound of rushing water alone. It is truly marvelous at the feat mother nature has created here.

Canada has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. This is not a heavily marked or walked trail. Amazing what you can find just off a wall worn hiking path.

We had planned to do a hike at Lake Louise, but there were so many people around, that it made the hikes unappealing so we decided to do a less populated hike that day. At the end of our 5k trail, we came across one of the clearest lakes that I have ever seen. The subject on the point in the bottom right corner gives you a little perspective on how vast the landscape really is.

I found the skies to be amazing during a visit to Banff National Park. Locals had suggested a visit to Vermillion Lakes to catch views of local wildlife. This afternoon a storm was approaching as the sun was setting. It produced these incredibly colorful clouds that made for very moody shots.

On a trip to visit Banff Canada, had been directed by a local to visit Vermillion Lakes. Set off an early evening to see if any of the local wildlife might appear and was gifted this spectacular sky. A downed trees and a set of rocks presented a great framing, almost pointing the way to the view.

We had just finished up our day out in the wilderness of banff, and we were driving back into town. traffic slowed a bit, and we wondered what was going on. As we seemed to get close to what was causing the delay, I happened to look out my window and see this beautiful buck casually grazing. Thankfully my camera was sitting on my lap, and while we were sitting there, I was able to snap this picture.

It was coming on the tail end of our North American road trip. Alberta was the final destination after driving up the Pacific Coast. As soon as we crossed from British Columbia into Alberta, this mother Grizzly and her cub were eating flowers beside the road. I had just bought a super zoom specifically for this trip and I’m so thankful I did. We pulled over on the other side of the road and we were dead silent - Knowing how bears can be. My first time seeing a Grizzly and my first time in Alberta.

I live in Alberta, Canada and Banff is a fairly close drive that takes about an hour from where I live. Banff is one of my favorite places to take photos since I go on many hikes in the area. This image of the mountain with the forest in front was on of those hikes during the summer.

After hiking the backwoods of Banff around Cascade Mountain, I found a nice little spot to hang my hat and pitch my hammock to take a nap in total solitude.

This photo was taken while driving around Banff, Alberta. The curved road in the middle of those tall trees made it feel like we were getting deep into the woods. The Jeep was perfect for giving a better sense of scale on this shot.

I was so captivated by the lakes in Banff in the early mornings. The sky was so clear behind the mountains but there were clouds rolling in that allowed the sunrise to light the mountains with a little color. I was very lucky to be there at that moment.

Exploring Banff national park lead us to the very famous Lake Louise where we then decided to take a trail up into the mountains and discover something truly special. The trail was called the Plain of Six Glaciers and took you high into the mountain valley.

Lake in Two Jack Lake, Canada

Two Jack Lake is one of my favorite places to return to. The sunrises here are spectacular as the light hits Rundle Mountain and it reflects in the water. On this particular morning I noticed these stepping stones lent to give me the perfect composition for the spectacular background scenery. Looking back at this picture reminds me how peaceful it is at this lake in the early hours of the day.

I have NEVER seen this blue in my life. It was the most surreal thing, like the colour of Gatorade, a thirst quencher which I was longing for after quite the hike to reach this point. All I could do was look up in awe and wonder at the mesmorizing panorama of mountains that surrounded us for miles.

Finally got up to a peak in Lake Moraine, and waited out the first flurry of the season. Sometimes all you need to do is look up. Break the habit of keeping your head down and low.

This is Mount Fay, one of the ten peaks surrounding the spectacular Lake Moraine in Banff, Alberta, Canada. This was my first time there and won’t be my last! Any Canadian old enough to remember $20 bills issued in the 60s/70s will recognize this mountain range, which was printed on the back of the bill. While most people take extremely wide angle shots at this location to capture the lake and all the peaks, I found this one peak interesting enough to narrow in on. I love all the little details in the rock and the ridges of snow.

This lake is closed once the parking lot is full. I got there a little after 6 am and got one of the last parking spots. After being there, I can see why so many people want to see it. It’s truly amazing. Lots of areas to explore around the lake.

Daybreak we woke up at a truck stop after crossing the border from Washington State into B.C. late the night before. As we got closer, the mist mountains grew taller and waters crystal blue. Our first taste of this trip was Vermilion Crossing in Kootenay National Park on our way to Banff.
